Choosing A Landscape Lighting Design To Enhance A Yard
Outdoor landscape lighting is a way that homeowners can bring attention to an area of their yard during the evening. Landscape lighting design is often a way to combine both the ability to showcase features in a yard as well as keep pathways lit for safety reasons. Being able to use a landscape lighting design to both keep a yard area safe as well as beautiful is the goal of lighting.
For homeowners, the beginning steps in deciding which areas to light up involves being both practical and looking at the features of their yard that can be enhanced with lighting. Often these areas are obvious, but sometimes a homeowner can be surprised by just what a good landscape lighting design can bring out in their yard.
Looking At Landscape Lighting Design
When choosing a landscape lighting design, keep in mind that there are several options in lighting available. Solar lighting is a great way to showcase a particular area of a yard and doesn’t have to be connected to an outlet in order to work; on the other hand, the light is often not as strong as a traditional light.
The traditional type of lighting will need to be connected to a power source so cables or extension cords will be needed to power these types of lights. This can be easily accomplished by digging small shallow trenches in order to bury the lines. Depending on a yards layout, this may not work for all areas of the yard, so the independent solar lights may be better solutions for pockets in the yard.
Determining which areas will be part of a landscape lighting design needs to be done before deciding what types of lights will work. Check out your yard front and back and make a choice on which features you would like to display. Is there a tree or bush that would give off good shadows if lit up? What about natural rock formations in the yard, could a light enhance their appeal? Take some time to determine which areas of the yard would be enhanced with lighting.
Often, sidewalks or pathways are lit up for safety reasons at night. These lights can be attractive during the day too, as there are many choices for consumers when it comes to lighting.
By using a landscape lighting design a homeowner can focus attention on their home at night as well as having decorative lights in the yard during the day.
Sipping coffee on your back deck on a beautiful fall morning, you look up and gasp — there in your suburban oasis stands a small herd of deer. For a moment you pause, enchanted. An instant later, as the deer begin to munch on your landscape, you realize they’re just not as awestruck by the [...]
Soon it will be time to leave outdoor living spaces and ride out winter’s cold indoors. But before you batten down the barbecue and stow the patio cushions, don’t forget to take care of wooden structures – like decks, pergolas and play sets – that must remain out in the elements.
Routine maintenance of these structures [...]
Leaves turn brilliant colors, evenings cool and the kids go back to school. So long summer, hello fall garden cleanup.
You may already know that composting is a better way to deal with bags of leaves and backyard waste. But if you’ve avoided composting because it seems like too much work and mess — or you [...]
As the leaves turn different colors and the weather becomes cooler, many Americans begin to engage in outdoor cleanup. Consider the number of Americans injured in yard work accidents every autumn and you may begin to suspect that “fall” is actually short for “pitfall.” Fall, it seems, is becoming the season for back injuries, tumbles [...]
Probably one of the most widely used landscaping surfaces around, bark mulch can be used for pretty much anything. I have seen it used for children’s playgrounds, and if you are trying to incorporate a swing set or mini playground into your landscaped space, then bark mulch may be the product for you, and [...]
